SOMATIC EXPERIENCING & EMDR
Trauma is not what happens to us but what we hold inside in the absence of an empathic witness. - Peter Levine
Somatic Experiencing
Somatic Experiencing is a method that helps clients use their bodies to heal from trauma or major life events. By paying attention to physical feelings and body awareness, people can better understand their emotions, creating a stronger link between mind and body that supports healing.
Somatic Psychotherapy is effective in helping clients learn to:
-Reduce or eliminate symptoms
-Function better at home, work and play
-Increase your sense of vitality and liveliness
-Feel more comfortable in your own skin and more confident in the world

EMDR
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) is an interactive therapy technique that supports the reprocessing of negative experiences and retrain emotional reactions.
In addition to its use for the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, EMDR has been successfully used to treat:
Anxiety and panic attacks, grief and loss, depression, complex PTSD, addictions, anger, pain - including phantom limb pain, phobias, performance anxiety, sleep problems, and feelings of worthlessness/low self-esteem.
Through the integration of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Somatic Experiencing (SE), Lindsey assists clients in understanding the complex signals of their unconscious minds and bodies. These therapeutic modalities aim to reduce or eliminate symptoms related to traumatic stress. A key element of this process is identifying emotions, bodily sensations, and reactions, as trauma is frequently held in the body. This explains the difficulty in overcoming negative feelings through cognitive methods alone. Research shows that our bodies activate survival responses—fight, flight, freeze, or fawn—that can overshadow cognitive responses. In states of survival, the nervous system is engaged in ways that necessitate a careful healing approach. With the support of a certified and experienced practitioner, individuals can restore healthy self-regulation, enhancing their emotional and physical well-being.
